EXPOSITORY !!!!!

My MGP is about how eating healthy and sleeping good helps first graders succeed in life. For my expository writing piece I'm thinking of doing a poster that shows how not eating healthy and bad sleep affects children. I will be putting four different pictures of students in a classroom. Two will be ready to learn, working, and really positive about school. The other two are going to display students that didn't get enough sleep or food in their system. They are going to show how tired, lazy and how negative a student can be when they lack healthy eating and sleeping. Writing a small sentence under the picture will help the students understand what the picture is trying to say. I am still not sure of what to do on my persuasive but I think about doing a game where the students will be catagorizing different kinds of foods. Healthy and non-healty. Also a kind of book where they keep track of the time they go to sleep, so it can become something usual for them. I am trying to go with the emotion method to persuade the students. (first graders)

  1. Great idea to emphasize to the young ones. I know with my own boys, that when they were about that age they didn't comprehend the whole healthy eating concept. They just interpreted it as "Mommy being mean"..hehe! So we talked about the analogy of putting gas in our car. Ex: if I don't put gas in the car what happens? They said "it wouldn't go". So I told them that if we don't put food and water in our bodies then it wouldn't go either. Then I asked them if I can just put anything into the car to make it go? They started seeing that our bodies like cars need certain things to ensure that they operate properly. Doctor well check visits are also like taking the car in for its oil change, etc. Anyway, this example helped me to get the point across.
